Paper Doll // 1950s atomic print Pellon circle skirt md / medium

This rare 1950s "paper" skirt features a wonderful atomic print in a striking black and grey combination against an off white background. The skirt is constructed from Pellon, a non woven textile invented in the 30s but not put to commercial use in clothing until the early 1950s. Pellon is typically used as interfacing and often found in designer pieces of the time to add structure without weight. The fabric resembles wool felt in thickness and structure but feels much lighter.

The skirt is cut in a full circle style and topped with a black velvet waist band. While it has been photographed with a crinoline (not included) underneath to display fullness, this fabric is structured enough to stand up on its own! Skirt is finished with a side metal zipper and button tab on the left side and a hidden welt pocket on the right.

Please note that this skirt will have to be folded when shipped which will cause creases that will need to be ironed upon receipt.

Skirt displays minor evidence of wear and age. Slight yellowing to the off white background specifically near the waist band and zipper placket as pictured. The fabric has lost some of it's stiffness just below the waist band and there are a few spots hidden among the busy and vibrant pattern. Overall, this rare piece is structurally sound and truly a rare one-of-a-kind find for the 1950s clothing history buff!
